Assignments

Assignment 1
Purpose:
  • To see how well students can follow simple instructions.
  • To collect the emails of each student.

Send me an email with the subject (asunto) of: Computers [Insert your name] [Insert your grade].

For example if your name was Robin Hood and you were in 9th Grade

Assignment 2
Purpose:
  • To learn how to take an image of your screen using Print Screen [Imp Pant] and the difference between Print Screen and Alt + Print Screen.
  • To learn how to save images as JPG as opposed to BMP.
  • To learn how to change the size of images by resizing and cropping.
  • To practice attaching files in emails.

1. Open a program and resize it so that you can see the desktop in the background.

2. Push the button "Imp Pant" [this takes a picture of your screen that you can now paste]

3. Go into Paint and push Ctrl + V to paste the it. Notice that the image is the whole screen including your desktop.

4. Go to Image -> Attributes and change them to 800 and 600. Notice that this cuts off part of your picture. This is called Cropping.

5. Save this image as PrintScreen1 as a jpg. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT SAVE IT AS THE DEFAULT OF BMP. BMP files are much bigger and saving it as a jpg saves a lot of space without loosing too much quality.

6. Close that file and have the original program open like you had it [same size so you can still see the desktop].

7. Make sure that program is active by clicking on it one time. Press Alt + Imp Pant.

8. Go to Paint and paste this image. Notice that instead of getting the whole screen, we have an image of only the program that we were in.

9. Resize the white part of Paint to match the size of the window. This is different than cropping because it does not cut off any of the picture. Save this image as PrintScreen2 as a jpg.

10. Send both of these files to me with the subject of "Print Screen Activity."

Activity 3

We are going to be learning how to type without looking at the keyboard. Many of you may know how to type your way, but the way that I will teach you will make you much faster and you will type with less mistakes.

When you finish typing each lesson a results window will pop up. I want you to send me a jpg image of that window only [not the entire screen] with the subject of the lesson that you are working on.

Here are some reason that points will be taken off your grade:
  • Looking at your keyboard
  • Fingers on the wrong keys
  • Getting more than 10 percent errors
  • Sending me an image that is too big
  • Sending me an image that is in a different format than jpg
  • Sending me an email without the name of the lesson in the subject

If you are absent, you still need to do the assignment and email it to me or you will get points off.

I suggest that you practice at home as well. The program is free and you can download it by going to http://personales.ya.com/mecanet and then clicking on Core.

How to use the Mouse with Grover

This is a video Ms. Jessica and I made to help younger kids learn how to use the mouse properly. Hopefully we will have time to do more videos with Grover performing more complex actions like clicking and double clicking. In the mean time, enjoy this one. =D
